Ibrahim al-Jaafari is scheduled to hold talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif this morning on various points of interest at bilateral and regional levels.
The two sides are slated for a press conference afterwards.
The Iraqi top diplomat will also meet with President Hassan Rouhani besides other government functionaries to brief them about the latest situation in his country.
The visit of Iraq’s Foreign Minister is deemed highly significant given the critical situation in the region as well as the recent victories achieved by Iraq’s government and people armies against Takfiri terrorists.
On Dec. 28, Iraqi counter-terrorism special forces raised the country’s flag over the government complex in the city of Ramadi, while the Government of Haider Al-Abadi declared the western city fully liberated from the ISIL terrorist group.
ISIL captured the Ramadi city from Iraqi forces in May, and this victory is considered the first significant victory of the Iraqi Army after its withdrawal 18 months ago.
Al-Abadi has announced that the next target after Ramadi will be Mosul city.
